Nilu Phule Biopic: Work on Veteran actor Neelu Phule’s biopic begins, with Big B in a strong role in ‘Coolie’

Work has started on the biopic of Marathi and Hindi cinema veteran Neelu Phule. Neelu Phule started her career with a Marathi folk drama story ‘Aklechya Kandyachi’ and this play alone had more than two thousand shows. When the play became such a hit, it did not take long for him to get invited from films as well. In the year 1968, Neelu Phule’s performance appeared in the film ‘Ek Gaon Bara Bhangadi Ki’ on Dum Bade Padde. And, just on seeing Neelu Phule became the superstar of Marathi cinema. Neelu Phule has also worked in Hindi cinema with Amitabh Bachchan in the film ‘Coolie’, with Dilip Kumar in ‘Mashaal’ and with Anupam Kher in the film ‘Saaransh’.

Neelu Phule was known for his brilliant voice and dialogue delivery. His dialogues from his films are one of the most popular dialogues in the Marathi film industry. It is said that his portrayal of villainous roles in films was so real that women in real life despised him thinking that he would be the same crooked person in real life and this was a great compliment to his works. In real life, he did a lot of work towards the betterment of the society. Neelu Phule passed away in 2009 at the age of 78.

This biopic is being directed by the famous director of Marathi cinema, Prasad Oak. He says, “I have acted in many films with Neelu Phule ji. Working with him has been the most enlightening experience of my life. And now, being able to make a film on him is the biggest achievement. He is for me. He has been like a guru and I hope we will be able to present his story in the right way on screen.”

During the conversation, Neelu Phule’s daughter Gargi Phule says, “Prasad Oak has spent a lot of time with my father and he was very keen to make a film on him. I believe in his power and ability for storytelling and creativity. We have also got huge support from Tips Music Company.

This biopic of Neelu Phule is going to be produced by Tips, which was once a legendary music company. Its MD Kumar Taurani says, “Neelu Phule ji has been a huge contributor to the Marathi film industry and the film is a tribute to him. We have acquired the film rights from his daughter Gargi Phule and soon we will be shooting for the film. Now we are looking for an actor who can bring the character of Neelu Phule to life on screen.
