Salman Shah was born on September 19, 1971 in Sylhet city at his maternal home Ab A Hayat Bhawan, now known as Salman Shah Bhawan, in Dariya Para. His father is Kamar Uddin Chowdhury and mother Neela Chowdhury. He is the eldest son of the family.

Salman studied at Boyra Model High School in Khulna. In 1987, he passed matriculation from Dhanmondi Arab Mission School, Dhaka. Later he passed Intermediate from Adamji Cantonment College and B.Com from Maleka Science College, Dhanmondi.

Salman Shah started his acting career with television dramas. His first acting drama ‘Pathor Saham’ aired in 1993. Salman Shah’s arrival in films was held by director Sohanur Rahman Sohan. Released in 1993, the name of this film is ‘Qayamat To Qayamat’. Salman did not look back after that blockbuster film. His total number of films in his film acting career is twenty seven.

Salman Shah died on 6 September 1996. The body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his own bus building in Iskaton, Dhaka. His sudden death stunned the entire Bangladesh. Even today, Salman Shah, the famous father of Bengali films, is equally popular with the people of the country.
